Thomas Alva Edison was born today, February 11th, in 1847. The electrical systems that we have today are based on the same functionality that Edison patented and explored throughout his career so it is a special day for those of us in the lighting field. This installation of 176 ceiling lights is currently on display in the lobby of a German Art School . Hung on a 11x14 meter curtain (about 1600 sq. feet), each light is positioned carefully to produce a precise, balanced composition. It's fantastisch! It's great to see new technology applied in an unexpected place with stellar results. In this case, the update of the Rockefeller Center Tree to an LED light display has reduced the energy consumption by somewhere around 60% per day. I can't wait to see what's next as LED technology improves and LED products become more available.
