Lighting in a Glass Building

Planar Floor Lamp Room SceneGlass used as an architectural design element is perhaps the archetypal modern design statement. Glass walls, windows and even floors are showing up in townhouses, condos and suburban mega-houses with increasing regularity. The New York Times Home & Garden section recently ran a piece about this trend: The Stylish Terrarium: Decorating Under Glass.

Choosing your decor becomes problematic. As one owner says, "It's like living on the inside out. Your furniture has to look good in the round." Floor lamps, arc lamps and hanging fixtures have the kind of sculptural quality that can work in such an open design. Lamps such as this Planar floor lamp have a visual line and profile that allow them to thrive under the glass microscope.
